Quran & Qira’at

The Qur’an is the final revelation of Allah and the most sacred trust entrusted to this Ummah. Its preservation has never relied solely upon written manuscripts, but upon a continuous and living tradition of oral transmission, carefully safeguarded by scholars who received it with precision and conveyed it with integrity. The science of qirāʾāt lies at the core of this tradition, preserving not only the words of the Qur’an, but the exact modes of recitation as transmitted from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ through authentic and uninterrupted chains of authority.

This Qur’an Ijāzah Program is designed for serious students of the Qur’an who seek direct engagement with this inherited scholarly tradition. Instruction is conducted on a one-to-one basis with a qualified Shaykh who holds ijāzah in all ten canonical qirāʾāt, both major and minor, through the highest recognized chains of isnād worldwide. Through this direct transmission, students are connected to an unbroken lineage of Qur’anic recitation extending back to the Prophet ﷺ.

Within the curriculum, students may select the specific qirāʾah or qirāʾāt they wish to study, from among the ten recognized readings and their minor transmissions. While the Shaykh is authorized in all ten, each student’s program is tailored to their chosen path of study, allowing for focused mastery, close supervision, and precise correction in accordance with the methodological principles of each reading.

An ijāzah in qirāʾāt is not attained through brief or casual study. It requires sustained dedication, scholarly discipline, and consistency. This program requires a full year of committed study, during which the student is expected to complete a full khatma under direct supervision in their selected qirāʾah or qirāʾāt. The ijāzah is granted only after demonstrated accuracy, mastery, and adherence to the rules of tajwīd and qirāʾāt, reflecting the seriousness of the trust being conveyed.

Admission to the program is contingent upon the student’s ability to read the Qur’an fluently and possession of a solid foundation in basic tajwīd. These prerequisites ensure that students are prepared for advanced study focused on refinement, precision, and responsible transmission rather than foundational correction.

Upon completion of the program, students do not merely receive authorization to recite. They become entrusted carriers of a sacred scholarly responsibility, qualified to transmit the Qur’an within the parameters of its authentic readings.
